Coverage depends on which independent companies serve your address. Not every request gets a reply from every company.
Edison Park and Norwood Park are in Chicago
These two neighborhoods border Park Ridge but are part of the City of Chicago, so different rules apply. Gas service is from Peoples Gas. In Edison Park or Norwood Park (City of Chicago), leave and call Peoples Gas at 866-556-6002 or 911 from a safe place. In Chicago, most permitted building work needs a City general contractor license, and Chicago allows Express Permits for replacing heating equipment with equipment that does the same job.
For renters there: Chicago's Heat Ordinance runs September 15 to June 1. In apartments with central heat, landlords must keep at least 68°F from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and 66°F overnight. Tenants can report no heat by calling 311. That ordinance is a City of Chicago rule and does not cover Park Ridge or the suburbs on this page. See the home page for more on both neighborhoods.
Utilities, permits and census figures
Nicor Gas serves Park Ridge and each suburb with a page here. If you smell gas, leave right away and don't use phones, switches or anything that could spark. Once you're outside and a safe distance away, call Nicor Gas at 888-642-6748 or 911. Don't try to find or stop the leak yourself. None of these utilities is connected to this site.
Each city or village runs its own building department. Park Ridge's permit fee schedule lists a permit for furnace and boiler replacement. Your contractor confirms and pulls it with the City (847-318-5291). In other towns, check with the village's building department. Never assume a furnace swap needs no permit.
Many homes near O'Hare received sound insulation through the City of Chicago's program, which can include added air conditioning; tell the company if your home was in it.
Population, housing age, heating fuel and ownership figures on these pages come from the American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year data. Town history notes come from public reference sources and are kept short.
Illinois doesn't issue a statewide HVAC license; towns set their own rules. In Park Ridge, contractors register with the City each year and must carry required insurance. In Chicago, most permitted building work needs a City general contractor license. Ask for proof of registration and insurance.
